A FINE AND RARE BAERTEN-ENGRAVED SPECIAL ORDER 12-BORE SINGLE-TRIGGER SIDEPLATED OVER AND UNDER EJECTOR GAME GUN, serial no. 863RN07584,
27 1/2in. nitro barrels with 6mm ventilated matt top-rib, the over barrel signed in script 'Fabrique Nationale Herstal' and with a thin gold band at the breech end, gold detailing to three-piece fore-end furniture and screw mounts, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, hold-open toplever, manual safety with integral barrel selector switch, finely blacked action and sideplates carved in high relief and four colour gold-inlaid with game scenes surrounded by rococo style arabesques and gold line detailing, the left side with ruffed grouse, the right with pheasant and the underside with a lone mallard in flight, the triggerguard with a lynx, the left sideplate and triggerplate signed 'J. BAERTEN', 15in. well-figured pistolgrip stock with stitch border chequering, weight 7lb, in a Guardian oak and leather case with canvas outer

Provenance: The engraver, Jose Baerten was a master engraver by the age if 39 and in 1977 became chief engraver for Fabrique Nationale, remaining in the position for a full ten years. The serial number places this gun to have been completed in 1979
