A SCARCE BRITISH 1788 PATTERN OFFICER'S SWORD,
circa 1795, with curving 36in. blade, broad central fuller for the majority of its length with additional narrow fuller along the back edge, the broad fuller engraved with various motifs including mounted cavalrymen, suns, moons, trophies and scrolls, script signature to back-edge, iron stirrup hilt with narrow langets and single turned down quillion, plain back-strap with flat-topped pommel, ribbed ebony grip (possibly originally wire-bound) and complete with its iron scabbard (rusted externally) pierced with three panels to each side showing black leather beneath (surfaces worn) and fitted with two loose suspension rings
