BOSS & CO.
A SCARCE .500 (3IN.) BLACK POWDER EXPRESS ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 3131,
28in. black powder only barrels with Henry rifling, raised matt rib with open sights and folding leaf sight for 50 and 100 yards, bead foresight, under rib engraved 'BOSS & CO. 73. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.' Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved percussion fences, rebounding back-action locks with bolted dolphin hammers, triggerguard forming skeletal steel pistolgrip, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright finish overall, 14 1/4in. boldly-figured stock including chequered steel buttplate, sling eyes, fore-end with replacement wood (with crack) and finial, weight 9lb. 14oz.

Provenance: The makers records indicate that serial no.3131 was a 12-bore hammergun and that 3130 was a .500 double hammer rifle completed towards the end of 1873 for the Marquis of Buchanan. We concur with them that in all probability the records show a typographical error, and that the details for serial no.3130 refer, in fact, to this Lot.
