28in. nitro barrels with ribs engraved '1' and '2', and 'WILLIAM EVANS. FROM PURDEYS. 63. PALL MALL. ST. JAMES'S. LONDON.' (wall thicknesses below recommended minimum), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and full (No.1 and No.2), and imp. cyl. in both (No.2 extra barrels), treble-grip actions, toplevers engraved '1' and '2', removable striker discs, automatic safeties, bouquet and scroll engraving, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening and finish, No.1 with 15in. figured stock including 1 1/4in. wooden extension, No.2 with 14in. figured stock (cracked at hand), weight 6lb. 7oz. (No.1), 6lb. 4oz. (No.2, 6lb. 5oz. with extra set of barrels), in their makers brass-cornered leather case, the extra barrels in a separate hard leather barrel slip
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this pair of shotguns were completed with a Roger's type action circa 1900 and purchased by F. Gough.
