A 20-BORE FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, no visible serial number,
circa 1800, with twist-iron re-browned 31in. barrels, applied bead fore-sight, the breech-ends each inlaid with a gold oval poincon stamped 'BATE LONDON', twin gold lines and vents, fully engraved top-tang with a starburst bridging the join, flat, slightly curved bevel-edged step-tailed locks with acanthus carved borders and signed 'BATE', further engraving of gamebirds to the tail, en-suite hammers, semi rain-proof pans and roller-frizzens, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece, iron heel-plate, the top-spur engraved with a dog flushing gamebirds, large broad trigger-guard bow engraved en-suite with scrolled pistol-grip tang, pineapple finial, white metal oval barrel key escutcheons and ramrod throat, turned iron ramrod pipes and period ramrod
