A 10-BORE FLINTLOCK SILVER-MOUNTED SINGLE-BARRELLED FOWLING-PIECE, no visible serial number,
with London hallmarks for 1780 and 1784, probably shortened 29in. triple-stage barrel with moulded bands at the intersection, the top-flat signed in script 'LONDON', private proofs, engraved ball-bands at breech, deeply florally engraved top-tang, flat bevel-edged step-tailed lockplate signed 'T. BATE' within a gold inlet scroll, borderline engraved hammer, frizzen and top-jaw, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (worn smooth), large padded leather roll-over cheek-piece affixed with brass tacks, hallmarked silver heel-plate with engraved top-spur, hallmarked trigger-guard tang with double rolled-edge engraved bow, the side-cheek with plain silver oval escutcheon and an inlet silver game-bird in flight, acorn finial, iron ramrod throat, plain thimbles and replacement ramrod
