28 3/8in. (72cm) nitro chopperlump barrels, rib with fine acanthus detail and gold-inlaid "THE WOODCOCK", tubes gold-inlaid 'FLLI. PIOTTI GARDONE V.T. ITALY', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, manual safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, hand-detachable lockplates, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, articulated front trigger, rolled-edge triggerguard, the action bar and furniture exquisitely carved in high relief with stylised flowing arabesque designs in geometric patterning on a finely matted background, the right lockplate meticulously engraved with a fine brace of woodcock on a forest floor amid oak leaves and ferns, the left lockplate with an extreme close up portrait of a woodcock surrounded by bramble, its mate in flight in the middle distance, the underside with a spaniel retrieving woodcock, all engraved in finest bulino style, the triggerplate signed 'G.S. PEDRETTI', bright finish overall, 15 1/4in. highly-figured stock, the fore-end iron and island finial engraved en suite to the action, signed 'FLLI PIOTTI' and finely inset in gold with the Piotti crest, weight 5lb. 11oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case with accessories and original paperwork
Provenance: The certificate of authenticity, encased in its leather hand-tooled leather wallet, confirms that the gun was completed on the 27th October 2014. The gun is in unused condition.
The engraver has kindly informed us that over 800 hours of work was involved in engraving this gun. He tells us that was inspired to dedicate a piece to 'The Queen of the wood' whilst shooting in Scotland and he personally rates this work as one of his very best.
