A RARE .52 PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING RIFLE MODEL '1855 U.S. NAVY RIFLE', serial no. 20360,
one of approximately 263 manufactured only in 1856, with 28in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, bayonet lug for the saber bayonet beneath the muzzle, slanted breech-block, the right side with trapdoor for a tape primer signed 'EDWARD MAYNARD PATENTEE 1845', top tang marked 'SHARP'S PATENT 1848', back-action lock with large exposed side-hammer, walnut butt-stock (large inlet repair at toe), brass patch-box and heel-plate, iron under-lever with locking catch and walnut splinter fore-end with broad brass barrel-band, the whole heavily cleaned with loss to detail, traces of pitting and heavily re-finished wood
