A FINE AND IMPRESSIVE 6-BORE SPORTING-RIFLE FOR DANGEROUS GAME, serial no. 739,
circa 1850, with substantial browned octagonal 32in. damascus barrel rifled in two grooves for belted ball, dove-tailed boat-shaped crescent fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with three additional folding leaves, the top-flat signed 'FREDERIC T. BAKER, LONDON', squared patent breech engraved with bands and a fully scroll engraved top-flat, moulded snail with platinum plug, fully engraved top-tang with central depiction of a prowling tiger, border engraved lock signed 'F.T. BAKER' featuring a gamescene of a boar being set on by hunting dogs to the bar and a scroll engraved panel at the tail inset with a gold flaming urn, scroll engraved dolphin headed hammer, chequered pistol grip walnut half-stock (cracked through and expertly repaired behind lock, inlet repair above lock), iron circular patchbox to right hand side of butt with scroll engraved hinge, the lid with an engraving of a tiger with prey, chequered iron heel-plate, the top-spur carved and engraved as a Corinthium column topped with an inlet gold flaming urn, the same device repeated on the fore-end finial, raised cheek-piece, fully engraved iron grip-cap, chequered single set trigger and substantial brass cup-ended ebony ramrod, weight approximately 11 3/4lbs.
