circa 1880, with heavy octagonal 28in. slightly tapered blued barrel signed at the breech 'E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION N.Y.' and marked with the calibre (.38) to the bottom flat, dove-tailed beaded-blade fore-sight, buckhorn rear-sight, colour-hardened plain receiver (much finish remaining) marked 'HEPBURNS PAT OCTOBER 7th 1879', central hammer, side-lever opening, walnut chequered half pistol-grip butt-stock, colour-hardened semi-crescent iron heel-plate, chequered walnut splinter fore-end with colour-hardened schnabel tip, much original finish throughout
