A CASED .577/.500 (No.2 BLACK POWDER EXPRESS) 1871 PATENT DOUBLE-BARRELLED TOPLEVER BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMER RIFLE BY WESTLEY RICHARDS, serial no. 12754,
for 1876, 28in. damascus barrels with sunken rib engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS. 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON. HENRY'S PATENT RIFLING.', short sighting flat engraved 'EXPRESS PATENT FOR No.2 CASE', block-mounted Battue-style rear sights with additional folding leaf, block-mounted blade fore-sight, incorporating Westley Richards improved toplever snap-action, patent no. 1572 of 14th June 1871, use number 2717, removable striker bars, non-rebounding locks with bolted dolphin hammers, bar-in-wood, the fore-end meeting at the knuckle in a crab joint, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, the triggerguard with a lion couchant in a grassland setting, retaining traces of renewed colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock with broad flat-top chequering, partially-engraved steel pistolgrip cap, cheekpiece, partially-engraved steel buttplate, the whole expertly refinished, in its makers leather-bound oak guncase, the lid exterior marked 'W.E. STAMER'
