A .31 ETHAN ALLEN PATTERN 1845 SELF COCKING PERCUSSION PEPPERBOX PISTOL, CIRCA 1850, no visible serial number,
with 3 1/2in. fluted barrel clump, foliate engraved rounded frame, detachable nipple shield also foliate engraved (faint) and bar hammer, stamped on the left 'ALLEN'S PATENT / 1845' two piece bag shaped grips, the left grip stamped with an old owners name 'W CLEGG'

Provenance: Allen pepperboxes were among the best selling handguns of their day, the long period of their manufacture 1830 to the early 1860's attests to their wide popularity and commercial success
