A SCARCE .40-82 (WIN) LEVER-ACTION CARBINE, MODEL '1886 SADDLE-CARBINE', no visible serial number,
earlier production between 1886-91 and originally with a serial number below 50,000, with reblued 22in. barrel signed 'MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. Provenance: This carbine conforms with other Winchester rifles that were returned to the factory for refurbishment. If the lower tang was replaced because of damage or wear, the replacement tangs were not serial numbered. The original number has not been erased. Model 1886 carbines are scarce as only one in every two hundred guns produced was a carbine, giving an approximate production of only 800 pieces
