A PAIR OF W. J. JEFFERY 12-BORE SIDELOCK EJECTORS, serial no. 20126/7, circa 1908, 28in. nitro reproved barrels, the ribs engraved 'W.J. JEFFERY & CO. 13. KING STREET. ST. JAMES'S. LONDON.' and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, some pits and dents, wall thicknesses circa 20, treble-grip actions with hidden third bites, arcaded fences, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets (some wear and patination), 15in. well-figured stocks including 1/2in. wooden extensions and with rubber cheekpiece inserts (distressed), the fore-end woods finely inset in silver '1' and '2', some minor losses to edges, weight 6lb. 14oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 11oz. (No.2)
Provenance: The vendor has kindly informed us that the guns were made for his Grandfather, Atholl Laurence Cunyngham Forbes, 21st Lord Forbes (b. 1882, d. 1953) and have remained within the family since, being passed down through his successors to the title
